It's All About Who???

The April 2007 "Word of Faith" magazine, published by Kenneth Hagin Ministries has this headline:

Jesus
It's All About Him!

What a great message! Hagin could have left the story just like that, not added a word, packed up his computer and gone home and he would have written a great message! Unfortunately, like many writers who don't know when to stop, he chose to write more. In a series of excerpts from various books by Kenneth Hagin and his father that he put into this article he writes:

  • He has already blessed us because we are in Him.
  • The Lord Jesus Christ Himself told us, in effect, "You have the authority to use My Name and that Name will get you the benefits the Word of God says belong to you." Jesus is not going to come down here and force you to use His Name and receive His blessings.
  • I know those blessings belong to us!
  • I've used the Name to command sickness and disease to leave my body...And I have used the Name to have my financial needs met.
  • We're the ones who make it possible for God to bless us. If you'll make available the possibility, He will bless you.
It's all about who, Kenneth?

What To Do When the Gospel Is Not Enough

ReligionWriter.com reports:

Booklet: Why — and How — Churches Need to Innovate

The Dallas-based Leadership Network – the closest thing the evangelical world has to a church think-tank – released in February a glossy publication covering the newest and best ways to “do church.” The 63-page Innovation 2007 starts off with a provocative sampling of relevant statistics. Did you know the average American spends only seven minutes a day on religious practice? Or that the largest 10% of congregations contain 50% of all American church-goers? And that 37 million Americans live in poverty?

Changing social, religious and demographic realities make innovation “inevitable,” writes Warren Bird, executive editor and primary writer of Innovation 2007, in an email to ReligionWriter. “Language changes, technology arrives. Since culture is constantly shifting, so our way of bringing the same, unchanging Good News may change.”

If you haven’t heard these buzz words before – multi-site, externally focused, encore generation – Innovation 2007 offers journalists, church leaders and interested observers a chance to bone up on church trends. A quick sampling of successful innovations:
  • Using video cast sermons and other Sunday-morning content to create a “multi-site” church with multiple locations.
  • Preaching regularly on helping those beyond the church walls.
  • Creating house churches where believers gather for an intimate worship and discipleship experience.
  • Making church a place where people can admit and overcome substance abuse and other addiction issues.
  • Ministering to the needs of the “sandwich generation,” which cares for children and elderly parents at the same time.
  • Modeling financial generosity at the leadership level.
  • Helping people navigate complex health care services.
  • Pinpointing underutilized talent in a congregation and encouraging “ministry entrepreneurship.”
  • Viewing university outreach as a strategic investment, not simply an obligation.
Strange - I don't see a thing about presenting people with the Law and Gospel. What a shame Jesus and the early church didn't have this program to present the unchanging Gospel. What He really needed was programs, programs, programs! So many more could have been saved.

How DOES Kim Do It?

We haven't had a Kim Clement prophecy lately, so here we go. Just got an e-mail from Kim in which he states :
What a year it has been already! We all know that He has made exceedingly great and precious promises available to us and I'M RECEIVING IT!
I can hear the humility in his voice!
In March, I had the firm impression that the Nation would mourn in April but I was reluctant to make it a public prophecy because it was an insight which would further enlighten me to something that the Lord had said in 2004, in a meeting in Santa Barbara, CA. The Nation mourned the loss of many lives that were taken at Virginia Tech and caused so many questions of which only God has the answers.
You mean you could have warned us about Virginia Tech and possibly thwarted it, but failed to do so? Why are we just hearing about this now?

He goes on to point us to a prophecy just posted today on his website (click here) that he made April 19th in Humble, TX, In it he writes:
For once again from the city of Houston the Spirit of the Lord would speak. The weather patterns changing. There are changes in the weather and this is My doing.
Of course he's talking about the tornados in Texas, and, of course, the fact that he didn't post this until today shouldn't bother us. Kim is obviously a prophet of the first order!

The Devil Has All Your STUFF

I don't know if you were aware of it or not, but apparently Satan has all your "stuff" and God wants you to get it back from him!! Of course, getting it back assumes that you must have had it once before and lost it! How careless of you! This is the preaching of the Word Faith movement and apparently is also the teaching of the "prophetic" Elijah List as well. Be sure to get this CD:

Robinson, Charlie
God Won't Allow the Devil to Take All Your Stuff-
So Here's How He'll Help You Take it Back! (Club April 2007)

If you're looking for a "traditional" teaching about prosperity - then this amazing and prophetic teaching by Charlie Robinson is NOT THAT! It's better and it's more. So, if you're sick and tired of being sick and tired in the area of financial pressures, then this message will revolutionize your thinking --- and your financial life!

Find out how to NOT short circuit your inheritance, but rather discover the process to regain and recover that which God has already ordained to under your ownership!

Of course if I had it and lost it and don't even know what it is, then I don't miss it and have no need of it anyways.

Well, At Least They're Honest About It!

From the Arizona Daily Star:

'Lord' is fading at some churches
By Stephanie Innes
Arizona Daily Star

At Tucson's largest Episcopal church, St. Philip's in the Hills, the creators of an alternative worship service called Come & See are bucking tradition by rewriting what have become prescribed ways of worship.

For the faithful, that means God isn't referred to as "him," and references to "the Lord" are rare.

"Lord" has become a loaded word conveying hierarchical power over things, "which in what we have recorded in our sacred texts, is not who Jesus understood himself to be," St. Philip's associate rector Susan Anderson-Smith said.

"The way our service reads, the theology is that God is love, period."

..."Jesus was for an egalitarian community. He did not have room for titles or status. And it is recorded that many of the disciples called him Lord. But they had a different idea about worshipping him," she said. "Jesus was a rabbi and teacher. It was a relationship of mentoring, looking up to him for that kind of companionship."
Well, at least we know that on the Day of Judgment while many will say to Jesus "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works?" these church leaders won't be saying that. However, I suspect Jesus will still tell them "'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!" (Matthew 7:22-23)

From Dino To Chicken Little?

From CNN:

T. rex thigh reveals chicken family ties

CHICAGO, Illinois (Reuters) -- Tiny bits of protein extracted from a 68-million-year-old dinosaur bone have given scientists the first genetic proof that the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex is a distant cousin to the modern chicken.

"It's the first molecular evidence of this link between birds and dinosaurs," said John Asara, a Harvard Medical School researcher, whose results were published in Friday's edition of the journal Science.

Scientists have long suspected that birds evolved from dinosaurs based on a study of dinosaur bones, but until recently, no soft tissue had survived to confirm the link.

The theory of evolution is based on survival of the fittest, with species gradually improving and evolving into yet a better species. So my question is, how did the mighty dinosaur devolve into the lowly chicken?

And This Guy Is Teaching People?

"When Christ went down to the chambers [hell] I’m convinced He took Satan by the hair of the head and drug his nasty body from one end of that place to the other and said 'I am the Lion of the tribe of Judah and I have just defeated your boss at the cross and from this day forward when the church of Jesus Christ comes to the gates of the kingdom of hell and they mention My name, you do what they say, because the power of the blood has totally conquered you from this day and forever more.'" - John Hagee Today, April 5, 2007

Let's see, what did I learn from Pastor John today:
  1. Satan has hair
  2. Satan has a body
  3. Satan is in hell
  4. Jesus defeated Satan's boss

Welcome to the U2charist

From the BBC:

A church in Dublin's city centre has conducted a service based on the music of Irish rock group U2.

Around 150 people attended the Anglican St George and St Thomas's Church, to sing hits like I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For and One.

"We're reaching out to the youth," said organiser Greg Fromholz. "There's a deep Christian message in U2's music."

The so-called U2charist, named after the band and the Eucharist - or Holy Communion - originated in the US.

Featuring the band's music instead of hymns, it was created by Sarah Dylan Breuer in for a service in Baltimore in April 2004.

It has since spread around the world, with services held in Australia, New Zealand and Britain.

The U2charist often features a political message centred around Bono's campaign to eradicate extreme poverty and Aids.

Dublin's Sunday service lasted an hour and a half, with the church kitted out with concert-style lighting, video screens and dry ice.
Quite fittingly, this story is found in the "Entertainment" section of the BBC web page, rather than the "Religion" section.
