The Run Down Church

On February 6th Joyce Meyer had as her theme on Enjoying Everyday Life "Look Great, Feel Great." The telecast is available as a download here. Near the start of her show she makes the following statement:

I find that reading a good book about exercise, drinking plenty of water, balanced eating, how to take care of myself, how important it is, that that just kind of stirs me up to make sure that I'm doing everything that I can to look my best and feel my best. You know, our bodies - the Bible says that if we're Christians, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. You know, that's a great responsibility. I mean, a tremendous responsibility. If I was looking for a church and there was one on this corner that had the windows broken out, the roof was caving in, the paint was peeling off, the front door was caved in, and there was one on this corner that was freshly painted, looked nice and the windows were cleaned and everything was nice and tidy, there would not even need to be any real thought to where I was going to go. I'd know where I would go.
The logical conclusion the unsuspecting viewer draws from this careless comparison is that the Holy Spirit either won't or doesn't want to indwell someone who isn't physically healthy.

Additionally, Joyce Meyer is judging the church in her illustration from outward appearances. Perhaps that run-down church is the only one of the two that is faithfully preaching the Gospel and they're broke because people prefer the nice-looking church that may be preaching a feel-good gospel!

That's Joyce for you. Her followers are hell bent on defending her. I recently left a WOF church for a small church with a pastor who is a recent graduate of Dallas Seminary. I posted a podcast at cryloud.com on Joyce which I had distributed to women before Joyce came to Orlando last year. Not one comment from the women. I can only assume that since they went to see "it's all about me Joyce" they prefer Joyce over the holy writ.

Check out this quote, I will be using it in a quiz soon
"…how can you glorify God in your body, when it doesn’t function right? How can you glorify God? How can He get glory when your body doesn’t even work?…What makes you think the Holy Ghost wants to live inside a body where He can’t see out through the windows and He can’t hear with the ears? What makes you think the Holy Spirit wants to live inside of a physical body where the limbs and the organs and the cells do not function right?…And what makes you think He wants to live in a temple where He can’t see out of the eyes, and He can’t walk with the feet, and He can’t move with the hand?…The only eyes that He has that are in the earth realm are the eyes that are in the body. If He can’t see out of them then God’s gonna be limited… (Is God Glorified Through Sickness? audiotape #FP605.)" It is by Fred Price. Birds of a feather burn together.
